The National Broadcasting Commission-NBC has charged Broadcasting Organizations across the country to adhere strictly to the ethics of political broadcasting, with aim of having responsible coverage of the 2023 elections.

The Director General of the Commission, Alhaji Bello Shehu Ilella gave the charge during a one-day sensitization Forum on Political Broadcasting organized by the Agency for broadcasting organizations In the northwest and North East, held in Kano.

He said the essence of organizing the sensitization workshop was to sensitize broadcasters, political parties, officials, and other stakeholders to come up with a format for achieving free and fair elections come 2023.

“You know campaign will commence soon, that is in the next 7 days, so we have to strategize and make sure that all the broadcast stations operate according to the law”.

Alhaji Shehu Ilella appeals to broadcasting stations to ensure that they abide by the code of the NBC, and must not operate outside the composition of the law.

He added that any broadcasting found violating the codes of the NBC would be sanctioned according to the rules of the Commission.

Speaking while declaring the workshop opened, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state described the meeting as timely.

He said broadcast media is a veritable tool for mass mobilization through political factors, propagate their views and opinions to the public, hence must be treated with optimum care because of its importance.

“NBC must be commended for this foresight as we are coming closer to the campaign period, and I hoped this meeting would yield a positive result”.

The meeting was attended by heads of media broadcasting stations from the northwest, northeast, and other stakeholders.
