Over two hundred and seven people have so far loss their lives to the devastating flood that has ravaged the people of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger state.

Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba Arah stated this while addressing Newsmen in Minna on efforts by the Agency to mitigate the multiple disasters of tanker explosions in Agaie and Diko, banditry and that of recent devastating Mokwa flood to forestall future occurrence

According to him a total of five hundred persons have been injured by the ravaging flood, while the number of those missing are yet to be ascertain, as according to him, even this Tuesday the second of July this year, some officials of Niger State Emergency Management Agency will depart Minna the state capital for Mokwa in continuation of their relentless work of managing disaster and data collection for the good of all.

Speaking on those whose properties or houses were destroyed, he said the sum of five hundred thousand naira was given to each person to rent a descent accommodation in addition to receiving other compensation shared to the total number of victims including food stuff to ameliorate their hardship.

The Director General NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba Arah  explained that all the efforts wouldn’t have been possible without the timely intervention, support and listening ears of Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago whom he described as humbled, compassionate and a listening Governor, that is always there for his people especially in times of need.

He however extended his deep condolences to victims and the affected families and appreciated all that have contributed both morally and financially towards bringing succour and relief to the victims of recent flood disaster in Niger state and called for more to succeed.

Abdullahi Baba Arah also take advantage of  the gathering to appealed to Niger lites leaving in riverine areas especially those on waterways to relocate from those areas to safer grounds to avoid the dangers associated with flood.

He said this had became necessary because the flood does not give any notice but only comes with severe consequence which he said most be avoided at all cost.
