Public Hearings Add Credibility To Appropriation Bill-KNHA

Kano state House of Assembly says public hearing will add value and credibility to the 2023 proposed appropriation bill.

Chairman House standing committee on appropriation, Kano state House of Assembly, Alhaji Abba Ibrahim Garko made the indication, while declaring open a public hearing on Kano state 2023 proposed budget.

According to him, the public hearing which was the 10th, marks another milestone in the history of Kano state House of Assembly.

He stressed that citizens views would be appreciated and treated with respect, to achieve the desired objectives.

The chairman pointed out that, Kano state House of Assembly, had injected proposals of over one billion naira from the inputs received in the last few years.

“Kano state House of Assembly is committed to the passage of budget that would uplift standards of living among people”, He reiterated.

Also speaking, Kano state Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan’azumi Gwarzo, identified lack of available resources as major hindrance to timely release of funds for budget implementation.

Alhaji Ibrahim who was represented by Director Budget, Alhaji Mukhtar Yakasai noted that, most of the requests from the citizens were part of the 2023 budget proposed by the state government.

“Some are centered around the state budget while others are to be incorporated into the LGAs budget”, he explained.

On the need to support strategic key institutions, Omoniyi Adeniyi from Resource Center for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), called on KNHA to monitor and ensure that funds allocated to primary health care centers have a positive impact on the facilities.

He urged the lawmakers to expedite action, on the speedy passage of the free maternal and child healthcare bill, and other durable legal frameworks to safeguard the maternal and child healthcare legacy of the present administration.

“Another critical thing that CHRICED would like this House to consider on the 2023 budget is constituency projects interventions”, he noted.

On his part, the Vice Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed Tudun Wada, appealed to the state government and relevant stakeholders, to establish more special education schools in the state.

Others who contributed include, Bridge connect Africa initiative, Muryar Talaka, concerned citizens forum, kanawa education foundation, and other CBOs and representatives across the 44 local government areas in the state.
