The Nigerian Army says it will continue to ensure that personnel receive the highest benefits commensurate to the sacrifices they make in the defence of Nigeria.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja stated this at the opening ceremony of Combat Arms’ Training Week(CATWEEK) organised by the Infantry Corps in collaboration with the Armoured Corps holding at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Kaduna State.

Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja explained that the Army would continue to uphold the highest standards of administrative measures to improve the welfare of personnel and their families for enhanced operational efficiency.

He disclosed that under his watch, the Army would focus on addressing the challenges of spares and assemblies, poor accommodation and other administrative issues that have negatively affected the functionality of arms.

General Lagbaja encouraged officers and men in the various theatres of operations, as well as those serving in other capacities to continue to give in their best to ensure a crime free nation.

Earlier in his welcome address, Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Olufemi Oluyede explained that the CATWEEK traditionally provides a forum for interaction among commanders and staff officers of the combat arms to review policies and practices for enhanced operational efficiency.

He pointed out that it also provides a platform for conducting thorough assessments of operational and administrative activities peculiar to combat arms operations.

According to Major General Oluyede, CATWEEK 2024 will provide a forum to brainstorm on pragmatic approaches to resolving prevailing administrative challenges affecting the operational efficiency of the combat arms and the Nigerian Army at large.

In his keynote address, Governor Uba Sani lamented that the recent surge in cases of insecurity had affected the livelihood of the people and the state’s inability to reap the dividends of investments in infrastructure and social amenities for enhanced development.

Represented by Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Governor noted that continued interaction between the state security apparatus and the Army presents hope for addressing these challenges, and further brought succour to the people of the State.

This year’s CATWEEK with the theme; “Sound Administration; A Panacea For Improved Combat Arms” had in attendance, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (rtd) and other serving and retired senior officers.
