The Taraba State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in partnership with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), officially handed over a solar-powered borehole to a community.

The handing over-ceremony took place on Friday 4th April 2024.

The borehole, which was initiated and completed by the ACReSAL project, is situated near the Galadiman Muri residence in the Jalingo local government area of the state.

During the event, the State Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Hajiya Aishat Barde announced the State Government’s tree-planting campaign, which is set to commence with the growing of seedlings at various nurseries across the 16 LGAs in the state.

Additionally, ACReSAL will work on reviving and operating six seedling nurseries within Taraba State.

Barde said that the tree-planting campaign will be carried out in phases, beginning with the onset of the rainy season.

The Commissioner espoused the view that tree planting is the most effective technology for controlling climate change, and that this philosophy is driving the government’s desire to plant trees.

The Galadiman Muri, Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur, expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the successful realization of the project and commended the State Government for installing the solar-powered borehole in his community and across the state.

Tukur, who is also the District Head of Jalingo, pledged his unwavering support to the government in ensuring the success of the project.

Hajiya Aishat Barde and her team conducted an inspection of the seedling nurseries and solar-powered boreholes within Jalingo and at Bakin Dutse, Ardo-Kola LGA of the State to assess the level of success recorded thus far.

The delegation included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Aminu Ayuba Kotolo, the Director of Forestry and Wildlife, Mr. Chifang Rimamkanati, and other key management personnel of ACReSAL and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
