Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has presented about One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira in prizes to outstanding teachers, head teachers and principals across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day in Ilorin.

The awards included N29 million for 29 best principals and head teachers, N59.5 million for 119 outstanding teachers, N22 million for 11 serving and retired university lecturers under the Pioneer Professorship Recognition Awards, and N9 million for three schools under the Best Kept School Award.

Governor AbdulRazaq also announced plans to purchase 10,000 Dangote Refinery shares for female teachers in outstanding public schools to promote investment and financial inclusion. He directed the Head of Service to develop modalities for extending the initiative to outstanding retired female teachers.

He said his administration would continue to prioritise teachers’ welfare and working conditions, noting that government had recruited qualified teachers, strengthened professional development, improved school infrastructure and introduced technology and data management through KwaraLEARN.

The Governor said teachers remained major drivers of the education sector and commended their sacrifices, adding that their contributions had helped Kwara pupils achieve outstanding results in national and international competitions.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Sheu Adaramaja, announced that the 2026 teachers’ promotion examination had been approved and scheduled for the following Saturday. He said Kwara would be the first state in Nigeria to conduct the 2026 promotion exercise for eligible teachers.
