The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received the current Kaura Namoda Local Government Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sadiq Abubakar, who defected to the APC along with his supporters.
Abubakar was received at the Kaura Namoda APC Secretariat by the former state chairman of the party, Lawal M. Liman, and the Kaura Namoda Local Government APC Chairman, Alhaji Sule Gabake.

In a statement, the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris Gusau, said Abubakar publicly announced his resignation from the PDP and formally joined the APC, alleging that the PDP had become “a dead party” in the state.
According to him, the PDP is battling a protracted illness that has weakened all its structures from the national to the ward levels, destroying its entire immune system.

Abubakar, who said he had been a PDP member since 1998, claimed he had never defected from the party until now. He added that despite being the ruling party in the state, PDP members were “playing opposition roles in all aspects—welfare, recognition, and economic participation—due to lack of good leadership.
Abubakar further alleged that the PDP was dead in Kaura Namoda and across the northern zone of Zamfara, predicting that the APC would reclaim the state in 2027, “because PDP is not a rewarding party but one of deceit and propaganda.”

He said many more PDP members would soon join the APC.
Receiving the defectors, Former APC Chairman Lawal M. Liman assured Abubakar and his supporters of equal treatment, noting that justice and fairness were fundamental principles of the APC.
He added that the party in Zamfara remained united under the leadership of Senator AbdulAziz Yari Abubakar and Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, whom he said were working tirelessly for the success and welfare of the party and its members.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zamfara State Chapter, has reacted to the defection, saying it did not come as a surprise.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, the party said Abubakar’s long-standing association with the APC had always been evident, while his persistent anti-party activities—especially during the Kaura Namoda by-election—were well known to stakeholders and loyal members.
The party noted that although his exit was regrettable, it had no negative impact on the PDP’s strength, unity, or stability in Kaura Namoda or the state at large.
Andi said the development reaffirmed the PDP’s belief that its fold should remain a home for individuals genuinely committed to its ideals, integrity, and democratic principles.
The party reiterated its commitment to rebuilding and strengthening its structures at all levels and assured the people of Zamfara that dedicated and sincere members who share its vision for progress and development would continue to be carried along.
