The Member of the House of Representatives representing Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, Aminu Sani Jaji, has called on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel the party’s recent ward and local government congresses in Zamfara State, citing the need for fairness, inclusiveness, and internal democracy.

He made the call while addressing journalists at a press conference in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Aminu Jaji described the congresses held on February 18 and 21 as a “kangaroo exercise, alleging that, the process was marred by irregularities and exclusion of genuine party members.

According to the lawmaker, committees sent from the APC national headquarters allegedly conspired with some individuals to undermine the rights and dignity of party members in his constituency and across the state.

He said several members were denied the opportunity to participate in the congresses at both ward and local government levels, despite having paid for nomination and expression of interest forms through party-designated accounts.

Jaji further expressed concern that the congresses were conducted without the active participation of APC members, contrary to the party’s constitution, also alleged that some participants were drawn from opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a development he said undermined the credibility of the exercise.

To restore confidence and unity within the party, Jaji urged the APC National Working Committee to dissolve the state working committee and set a new date for a transparent and inclusive congress.

The federal lawmaker also appealed to the Minister of State for Defence and immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, to intervene as a senior party leader in the state to help resolve the crisis.

In addition, he called on the reconciliation committee reportedly constituted by the President to step in and address lingering internal disputes in order to avert a repeat of the challenges experienced in 2019.

He, however, urged party members and aspirants to remain calm while awaiting a timely, fair, and decisive response from the party’s national leadership.
