Academic staff Union of Colleges of Education COEASU, has urged Kaduna State government to increase the welfare packages to staff of tertiary institutions towards improving confidence and optimal performance in the academic institutions.
National president of the Union, Dr. Smart Olubekun made the call while inaugurating newly Executive Council of members of the union at the College of Education Gidan waya Kaduna State.
Represented by the National Vice Chairman North Central, Comrade Noah Danlami Barde, the president commended the peaceful nature of the election and called on the new executives to eschew divisive tendencies and also ensure effective discharge of duty to members.
Provost of the College, Dr. Ayuba Ambi appealed for cordial relationship with the union members with a promise to operate and open door policy with them.

In a remark, the newly elected Chairman of the union, Dr Christopher Nuhu Yerima also reminded the state government to implement the CONPCAS and CONTEDISS salary structure for staff of tertiary Institutions as earlier agreed many years ago.
He thanked members for electing him to pilot the affairs of the union and promised to work towards addressing all issues affecting academic staff promptly.
The newly inaugurated Exco include; Comrade David Sarkinnoma Madami; Vice Chairman, Victor Bowman; Secretary, Grace Alkali; treasurer, Sadiq Abubakar; Organizing Secretary, Dr. Matthew Williams Barde; Publicity Secretary, Mrs Loveth Kwas; investment officer, Sankey Musa; Assistant Secretary. Others are Ereje Joseph as Auditor , Dr. Marajos Alkali Ex officio 1 and Victor Stephen Dutse as Ex officio 2.
The new executive members will serve for a period of four years.
