The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing technology and vocational education through a strategic partnership with the Federal University of Technology, Babura FUTB.
Governor Umar Namadi made this known during a courtesy visit by the management of FUT Babura, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bala Sidi Aliyu, at the Government House in Dutse.
Describing FUT Babura as a strategic ally in the state’s education agenda, Governor Namadi said the institution plays a central role in his government’s vision to develop technical and vocational capacity among Jigawa youth.
He revealed that the state has commenced construction of residential houses near the university and will support the institution further with campus roads and official vehicles as requested by the university.
To deepen this vision, Governor Namadi announced that the State Executive Council has approved the upgrade of the College of Vocational and Technical Education into a full-fledged institution, backed by a ₦20 billion investment in infrastructure and equipment.
The governor also disclosed that his administration has begun establishing three Centers of Excellence across the three senatorial zones, with a long-term plan to increase the number to eight, all focused on practical, technical, and vocational training.
He emphasized that the presence of a technology-based university like FUT Babura is a blessing for Jigawa and a major opportunity for students across the state.
Responding, Professor Bala Sidi Aliyu commended Governor Namadi’s developmental strides in the education sector, including the ₦25 billion already invested across seven tertiary institutions in the state.
He appealed for additional state support in constructing internal roads and providing vehicles to enhance the university’s efficiency and outreach.
Governor Namadi assured the FUT Babura delegation of continued collaboration, adding that education remains at the core of his administration’s development blueprint.
