FG Disburses Grant To Over 7,000 Vulnerable People In Borno

Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has begun the disbursement of twenty thousand naira to over seven thousand vulnerable people in the twenty seven local governments of Borno state. 

The support under the Grant for vulnerable Groups is aimed at lifting one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years. 

Launching the project in Maiduguri, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Hajiya Sadiya Farouq said the project which is being implemented in the thirty six and the Federal Capital Territory is designed to empower the beneficiaries to improve their productivity and income.

According to the Minister, the beneficiaries include women, youth, persons with disability and senior citizens. 

Hajiya Sadiya Farouq also launched four other projects that include distribution of starter packs to N-power beneficiaries, digital conditional cash transfer payment, onboarding of independent monitors and launching of sensitisation for the home grown school feeding programme. 

“While the target of the cash grant project is to increase income and productivity asset of the target beneficiaries, it is highly expected that the beneficiaries will use the grant to improve their productivity, create wealth, generate employment and improve their living standard” Hajiya Sadiya said.

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum represented by his Chief of Staff Professor Isa Hussaini observed that the insurgency has increased the number of vulnerable people in the state. 

He expressed confidence that the projects launched will improve the lives of the most vulnerable people and victims of Boko Haram insurgency. 

Some of the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer and grant for vulnerable group Ibrahim Musa and Fatima Abubakar promised to use the intervention to improve their wellbeing and education of their children.
