The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to upload the list of candidates for the February 2027 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
In a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the submission window, earlier scheduled to close on Saturday, 8th August, 2026, will now close on Tuesday, 11th August, 2026.
He said the extension followed appeals by political parties for additional time to complete the process on INEC’s dedicated portal.
According to the statement INEC also announced the suspension of printing for downloadable Permanent Voter Cards in Osun State.
It’s said Voters who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight of Sunday, 9th August, 2026, to print their cards.
The commission explained that the measure is to enable it to compile data ahead of the Osun Governorship Election slated for 15th August, 2026.
INEC recalled that PVC collection in Osun commenced at the Registration Area level from 22nd to 28th July, 2026, but due to complaints of large crowds, it was extended to 31st July and Collection later moved to LGA level from 1st to 7th August, 2026.
The commission said replacement downloadable PVCs have been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas after hoodlums carted away cards at the two centres.
It reiterated that the stolen cards cannot be used for voting.
INEC assured residents of Osun State of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election on 15th August, 2026.
