President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately return to court to vacate its order freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government.

The President’s directive comes on the heels of a court order obtained by the anti-graft agency on August 5, 2026, placing restrictions on the state’s finances.

In a statement addressing the development, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the timing of the EFCC’s action, noting that it comes mere days before the state’s governorship election

He emphasized that the federal government maintains a policy of non-interference in the statutory operations of anti-corruption institutions, significantly during sensitive democratic transitions.

President Tinubu maintained that he felt compelled to intervene in the overriding public interest.

He stressed that preserving public confidence, credibility, and absolute fairness in Nigeria’s electoral process overrides procedural isolation, particularly when actions risk being misconstrued as politically motivated.

Reiterating his commitment to the rule of law and democratic good governance, the President concluded with an explicit instruction to the anti-corruption commission to vacate the restriction on the account
