Girl Child Education Pivotal To National Development-Emir Of Rano

The Emir of Rano, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa has reiterated Rano Emirate’s dedication to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in uplifting the standard of girls education to international standard.

Alhaji Kabiru stated this while recieving members of Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL) under it’s Girls Education Partnership (GEP), during a courtesy visit to the Emir’s palace.

According to him, traditional leaders in the emirate council are working asidiously in ensuring that girls are enrolled in schools.

The Emir pointed out that girls trek long distances to attend schools in neighbouring villages while some parents procure bicycles for their children to motivate them due to the proximity.

Alhaji Kabiru explained that girls population in schools is higher than boys which is a clear indication of how parents dedicate themselves to educating their female children in Rano Emirate.

He said the state government had provided free and compulsory education to achieve the desired objectives.

“I commend the committee for the visit as the emirate council has done a lot in terms of education”

Earlier in his remark, leader of the delegation, Dr. Auwal Halilu said they were at the palace to solicit for assistance and cooperation of the emirate to support GEP in moving girl child education forward.

He maintained that Rano Emirate council was at the fore front of moving education forward in the state.

Also speaking, a member of Girl Education Partnership, Hajiya Ladid Fagge maintained that a research conducted by the group indicates that, insecurity, poverty, lack of potable drinking water, stigmatization, cultural norms, seasonal migration and other societal issue are some of the challenges facing female education.

She said, lack of scholarship, from government and philanthropists on girl child education was also a major catalyst to the under development of girls education.

Hajiya Ladidi Fagge appealed to Rano Emirate council to mandate it’s education committee to prioritize girls education as well as seek for philanthropic assistance in providing transportation system for female students.

“I hope that the education committee would continue to educate parents and relevant stakeholders in the importance of girls education”

Radio Nigeria reports that, GEP had organized a town hall meeting across selected local government areas to brain storm and find out problems bedevilling girls education in the area and profer lasting solutions to the challenges.
