Capital School, Kaduna, has held its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day with a renewed call for stakeholders to work together to address the declining standard of education in Nigeria.
Delivering a lecture on the theme, “Educational Decay and Its Effect on a Developing Nation,” Professor Maryam Abdu of Kaduna State University identified inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, declining moral values, shortage of qualified teachers, and weak policy implementation as some of the factors responsible for the deterioration of the education sector.
Professor Abdu stressed that quality education remains the foundation for national development and urged governments, parents, and communities to play active roles in rebuilding the system.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Mahmud Samaila, Member, House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on Education, reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Uba Sani’s administration to supporting policies and programmes that would improve access to quality education, especially in the construction and upgrading of public schools across the state.
The President of the Kaduna Capital School Old Students Association, KADCAPSOSA, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, said the association remains committed to supporting the growth of the school through infrastructure development, scholarships, and other interventions that will enhance teaching and learning.
She encouraged the students to remain focused and make the most of the opportunities available to them.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of prizes and awards to outstanding students who distinguished themselves in academics, sports, and good conduct.
The event had in attendance representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Local Government, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, government officials, alumni, parents, and students.
