His eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Saad Abubakar has declared today, Thursday the sixteenth of July 2026 as the first day of SAFAR 1448 after Hijira,  Islamic calendar.

In a statement signed by the chairman Advisory Committee on religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, says the Sultanate Council together with the National Moon Sighting Committee did not received any report confirming the sighting of the new crescent of SAFAR the 29th of MUHARRAM 1448AH, equivalent to 14 of July 2026, noting that yesterday, the 15th of July 2026 is the thirtieth of MUHARRAM and tomorrow shall be the first day of SAFAR respectively.

The statement notes that the Monthly Observation of the moon, clarifies the Islamic Calendar within a given year, thereby making the month of Ramadan moon sightings more acceptable to the general Muslims in the Country.
