The Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF-Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, has stressed the importance of credible and reliable data in driving effective planning, policymaking and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

He stated this when he received members of the Consultative Committee on Petroleum Statistics, on a courtesy visit at the PTDF Towers in Abuja.

Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu said the absence of accurate and dependable data has continued to hinder effective economic planning, infrastructure development and evidence-based policymaking in the country.

He noted that credible statistics are critical to informed decision-making and urged the Committee to develop a sustainable framework for generating high-quality petroleum data to support national planning.

Professor Aliyu explained that such data would also enable institutions like the PTDF to identify critical skills gaps for targeted human capital development in the oil and gas sector.

He reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the Committee through capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening its technical capabilities, improving data quality and enhancing institutional effectiveness in the generation of petroleum statistics.
