Jigawa State Government has spent over 200 million naira in training and retraining of over 800 Local Government Staff last year.

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd) disclosed this during a briefing in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

According to him, the commission has organized 56 workshops and spent over 218 million naira in training and retraining of 828 staff across various departments.

He explained that 634 local government staff were sponsored for various in-service training both within and outside the state to obtain additional qualifications.

Uba Bala Ringim said the commission had also spent about 59 million naira to sponsor who were trained as health inspectors, forest guards and assistant works superintendents.

He noted that the exercise was done to update and develop the capacity of the staff.

The Chairman also said over 1,430 local government senior staff were promoted while the commission had also approved the payment of retirement benefits of 308 last year.

Uba Bala Ringim further explained that the state government would soon lift its embargo on employment spaces to fill the gap and vacancies created as a result of the retirement of staff at the state level and across the 27 Local Government Councils.
