Lere Local Government Area has expressed confidence in its capacity to produce sufficient food to sustain not only Kaduna State but also neighbouring states.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Jafaru Ahmed, gave the assurance shortly after defending the local government’s 2026 budget proposal before the State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Implementation.
Ahmed stated that the council plans to prioritise agricultural development as part of efforts to strengthen food security in the country.
He disclosed that the local government has proposed a budget of over ₦7 billion, which will be directed towards agricultural expansion, execution of key capital projects, and enhancement of security across the area.
In the same vein, Giwa Local Government Area has proposed a budget of over seven billion naira for the 2026 fiscal year, with a strong focus on enhancing agricultural production and promoting food security.
The Executive Chairman of the Council, Ahmed Sama’ila Abdullahi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Kaduna State House of Assembly complex following the defence of the council’s 2026 budget proposal.
Malam Ahmed Sama’ila Abdullahi explained that, in addition to agriculture, the council intends to prioritise security, healthcare services, and human capital development in order to create a safer environment and improve the overall wellbeing of residents.
He noted that the performance of the 2025 budget was impressive, which informed the decision to increase the budgetary allocation for 2026 to ensure sustainability and alignment with the agenda of the Kaduna State Government.
