KNSG Establishes Malnutrition, Geriatric Centres – Commissioner

Kano state government says preparations were in top gear for the establishment of Malnutrition Rehabilitation and Geriatric Centres.

Commissioner of Health Dr. Aminu, made the disclosure shortly after defending the ministry’s 2023 proposed budget before Kano state house of assembly standing committee on health.

According to him, the state government has prioritized health by setting aside over 15% of the total annual budget to the sector.

He noted that, the 2023 budget would focus attention on capacity building, improved human resources for health, employment of critical man power, establishment of malnutrition rehabilitation, geriatric center for the elderly,and upgrade of Dawanau psychiatric hospital, to a Federal Neurology Centre.

In his remarks, chairman house standing committee on health, Alhaji Nuhu Abdullahi Acika explained that Kano state ministry of health, departments and parastatals have successfully defended their budgets.

He maintained that, the 2022 financial year witnessed tremendous achievements in the health sector, through provision of subsidized drugs to patients by the Kano state drug and medical consumables supply agency, free drug to HIV/AIDS patients by SACA, in addition to enrollment of beneficiaries by Kano state contributory healthcare management agency KSCHMA, among others.

Speaking to journalists, Kano state Commissioner of Housing and Transport, Alhaji Saleh Kausani said, the ministry had procured 150 shuttle buses and had budgeted for over 200 to ease transportation problems in the state.

He highlighted that,as the overseer managing the affairs of KAROTA,KAMATA and Kano line, the housing and transportation ministry, had budgeted over eight billion naira for the 2023 financial year.

Meanwhile, the chairman house standing committee on transportation, Alhaji Mudassir Ibrahim Zawaciki, charged the state government to ensure timely release of funds for proper budget implementation.

He stressed that, no budget would be implemented without funds, adding that, the committee had carefully scrutinized the ministry of transportation and its MDAs on its performance in the year 2022.

The Permanent Secretary Kano state Ministry of Justice, Hajiya Amina Yusuf ‘Yargaya and Chief Registrar Kano state High Court of Justice, Alhaji Abdullahi Ado Bayero pointed out that, their 2023 proposed budget is centred around capacity building, recruitment of judges, khadis and lawyers, in addition to the establishment and renovation of courts.
