NBA Identifies Professionalism, Patriotism As Key To National Development

The Nigerian Bar Association Sokoto branch says professionalism and patriotisms is crucial to National development of any country.

A professor of law from the University of Usman Danfodiyo Sokoto Professor Abubakar Sani Rilwan gave the indication at this year’s Law week held in Sokoto state.

Prof. Rilwan said lawyers must maintain the moral values in ensuring the administration of justice in the court of law in a bid to championing the course of development in Nation building.

He regretted that, the United Nations Development Programme ranks Nigeria as number 161 out of 189 countries in the Human Development Index stressing that the HDI is a composite index assessing three dimensions, namely health, education and living standards.

He urged professional in all sectors to upholds the moral values needed in changing the narratives of governance for socio-security and economic development in the country.

Addressing the gathering, the Attorney General of Sokoto state, Nasiru Muhammad Binji said the state government is committed to upholding the rules of law stressing that the state government is creating the enabling environment for seamless relationships between the executive and the judicial arm in the state.

According to him, the present administration in the state is committed to the independence of the judiciary in the state adding that the state government would not in any manner interfere with the administrative and judicial functions.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the chairman of the Association in the state, Barrister Muhammad Nuhu noted that the law week was aimed at looking at achievements and challenges with a view to discussing modalities for effective service delivery.
