The 10th House of Representatives has joined other countries in the world on advocacy for drastic measures against child labour, sexual harassment, gender inequality, forced marriage, and other issues negatively affecting female Nigerians.

Speaker of the house Dr.Abbas Tajuddeen, announced this While addressing young female Nigerians during a session in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child  held in Abuja.

The session tagged ‘Girls’ Chat with the Speaker.’ was organised by the Office of the Speaker in partnership with the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development.

Dr.Abbas Tajuddeen, who usually celebrates the girl child, dedicates time and resources to gender campaigns, assured the young Nigerians especially females of legislative interventions that will make life easier, safer and better for them.

The girls drawn from across the country, mostly teenagers, represented public and private schools at the secondary and tertiary levels asked the Speaker many questions concerning issues affecting young and female Nigerians.

The number four citizen who confirmed that child marriage is on a downward trend due to public enlightenment and advocacy, maintained that cases of child labour are still on the rise.

Earlier, the Executive Lead, Gender Mobile Initiative, Omowumi Ogunrotimi, thanked the Speaker for his warm reception and pledged to partner with the house in their struggles to meet the aspirations of millions of Girls.

She however appealed to the Speaker to continue to make laws that will enforce full protection of the rights of Nigerians, men and women, both young and old.
