Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state of his administration’s commitment to their safety and welfare.

He gave the assurance on Monday during a visit to Batch C, Stream One corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse.

Namadi described the NYSC scheme as an important platform for national integration, discipline, patriotism and youth development, urging corps members to embrace their host communities and contribute meaningfully to their development.

He encouraged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to explore agribusiness and other business opportunities during and after their service year.

The governor said his administration’s 12-Point Agenda prioritises education, healthcare, agriculture and the digital economy, urging corps members serving in schools, health facilities and other institutions across the state’s 27 local government areas to discharge their duties diligently.

On improvements at the orientation camp, Namadi listed the renovation of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Multipurpose Hall and male and female hostels, alongside the provision of 500 mattresses, 200 blankets and three industrial cooking pots.

Other interventions include the installation of a 100 KVA generator, 10 solar-powered security lights and the construction of a perimeter wall reinforced with barbed wire.

He added that contracts had been awarded for the renovation of staff accommodation, classrooms, the pavilion, toilet facilities and a six-bedroom building.

The governor directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as local government councils, not to reject corps members posted to them.

He also urged traditional rulers, council chairmen and community leaders to protect and support the corps members.

Namadi advised the corps members to uphold discipline, integrity, humility and patriotism throughout their service year, while avoiding social vices, cultism and unauthorised travel.
