The Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the NMA, Dr. Abubakar Nagoma Usman stated this while briefing Journalists on activities lined up for this year’s Physicians’ Week, themed “Securing the Future of Medicine in Nigeria,” in Kano.

Usman said the association remained committed to providing professional guidance, promoting ethical medical practice, supporting continuing professional development and advocating policies that improve doctors’ welfare and patient care.

He urged members of the public to prioritise preventive healthcare by attending routine medical check-ups, undergoing appropriate health screenings, seeking timely medical attention and obtaining medical advice from qualified healthcare professionals.

The NMA chairman also called on the media to partner with the medical profession in promoting accurate health information, combating misinformation, encouraging healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about physicians’ welfare and the need to modernise healthcare delivery.

Usman commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the state.

He said the commendation was based on the government’s interventions in healthcare infrastructure, primary healthcare, emergency medical services, specialist care, workforce development and access to essential medicines and medical equipment.

The chairman expressed the association’s readiness to collaborate with the state government to achieve its healthcare objectives and address challenges confronting medical practitioners and the health sector.

He also called for sustained reforms in medical education to prepare future doctors for the demands of modern medical practice.

According to him, medical training should increasingly incorporate digital literacy, technological innovations, research and lifelong learning to equip physicians with the knowledge and skills required to deliver quality healthcare.
