Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government has inspected several capital projects executed by the Kirikasamma Local Government Council from October 2024 to date.

Two sub-committees were constituted to ensure the smooth conduct of the inspection exercise across the local government headquarters and its surrounding areas.

Sub-committee A, led by the member representing Kanya Babba Constituency, Alhaji Ibrahim Hashimu Kanya, inspected the construction of a new borehole and the installation of a submersible pump as part of a water scheme, along with drainage works in Marma town and market stall projects in Tasheguwa, Marma, Dilmari, and Madaci towns.

Ibrahim Hashimu advised the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Malam Isyaku Abdullahi who accompanied the team on the importance of effective oversight on government projects to ensure quality delivery.

Also Sub-committee B led by the member representing Kiyawa constituency, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Andaza inspected the rehabilitation of Gafta-Baturiya road at the cost of over 4.2 million naira which was destroyed during last year’s flood as well as market stall at Baturiya town.

Earlier at the local government secretariat, the Chairman of the Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs and member representing Gwiwa Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Zakari, explained that the visit is part of the constitutional responsibilities of the legislative arm, which include exercising oversight on the implementation of policies and programmes by the executive arm, in addition to lawmaking and the assessment and passage of annual budgets into law.

Aminu Zakari said the committee will review administrative and financial documents such as cashbooks, payment vouchers, internal revenue analysis, and minutes of local standing committee meetings to ensure prudent management of public funds and promote good governance.

He further explained that henceforth, the Director of Planning will be included as one of the signatories of the local government accounts, while the Deputy Chairman will head the Water and Sanitation Department as the Supervisory Councillor.

Aminu Zakari pointed out that, two block of classrooms should be constructed for Nomadic schools to bring the children of the fulani cattle rearers more closer to the development process of the society.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Alhaji Muhammad Maji Wakili Marma, expressed the belief that the Legislative arm has being helpful towards entrenching good governance at state and local level.

Alhaji Maji Wakili described Kirikasamma community as accommodating to any visitor and assured to make good use of the guidance, recommendations and advise provided by the committee to strengthen the development process of his local government.

Radio Nigeria reports that, Members of the committee include the Deputy Chairman who is the member representing Kaugama Constituency Alhaji Sani Sale Zaburan, the Secretary of the committee who is the Deputy Clerk Alhaji Yusha’u Muhammad, two Auditors and Assistant Secretary One and Two.
