The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Kaduna State Chapter, has suspended its planned strike over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage for local government workers in the state.

The suspension followed the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State Government and the Union to commence the implementation of the ₦72,000 minimum wage for all categories of local government employees.

Addressing newsmen after the signing ceremony, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Rayyanu Isyaku Turunku, described the agreement as a milestone and a great achievement for both the government and the labour unions in the state.

He said NULGE has no reason to doubt the sincerity of the State Government under the leadership of the workers-friendly Governor Uba Sani, to honour the agreement and bring an end to the prolonged tussle over the new minimum wage.

Comrade Rayyanu commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and other stakeholders for their immense contributions in achieving the agreement.

Supported by the State Secretary, Comrade Samuel Kaiwa, and other executive members, the NULGE President also appreciated members of the union for their patience and endurance, assuring them that with the signing of the MoU, they will soon begin to enjoy the new minimum wage alongside their state counterparts.
