North East is gearing up for a major transport revolution as a fleet of brand-new electric buses takes shape in the factories of Ankai Automobile Co. Ltd., Hefei, China.

The Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, led a high-level inspection tour to assess production progress, quality assurance, and delivery timelines.

He was joined by the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed G. Alkali, alongside senior management and board members.

The e-buses, procured by the NEDC, are expected to offer modern, reliable, and environmentally friendly public transport — a bold step toward cutting carbon emissions and improving mobility in the North East.

“This isn’t just about buses — it’s about the future of transport in our region,” the Minister said, stressing that the project will “change how people move, how businesses operate, and how cities breathe.”

The introduction of electric buses is projected to reduce fuel costs, ease road congestion, and provide a safer, quieter commute for thousands of residents daily.

It also aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development and clean energy transition.

The first fleet is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria soon, marking the start of a cleaner, faster, and more connected transport era for the region.
