The Zamfara State Government has described as baseless and unfounded the recent allegations by a so-called parallel State Assembly, which accused Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting victims of bandit attacks.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Broadcast Media and Public Relations, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura while reacting on the allegations said the accusers lack legal standing and already been barred from acting as lawmakers by a court order.
Mustapha Kaura explained that, a Zamfara State High Court, presided over by Justice Muhammad Gusau, had on June 23, 2025, issued a restraining order against Bashar Aliyu and eight others, stopping them from parading themselves as Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, respectively.
Speaking further, Kaura said any citizen has the right to raise legitimate concerns about governance, but these allegations lack credibility and are being peddled by individuals who are not legally recognized by the court.
He also dismissed claimed that, the Zamfara government ignored recent attacks in Jangebe and Damri communities in Talata Mafara and Bakura Local governments, stressing that, the administration responded promptly and with compassion.
“The government expressed deep sympathy to the victims. In fact, the Chairman of Talata Mafara LGA was directed to cut short his engagements in Sokoto and immediately return to Jangebe to attend the funeral prayers of those killed. That shows genuine concern. What else do they expect?” Kaura asked.
Regarding relief efforts, Kaura said a standing emergency response committee, headed by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, has been tasked with visiting affected communities, assessing damage, and delivering relief materials.
On the state’s security approach, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura reiterated, Governor Dauda Lawal’s firm stance against any form of negotiation with bandits.
He emphasized that, there is no compromise or dialogue with terrorists in Zamfara, explaining that, the government is winning the war against banditry.
Mustapha Kaura argued that, Many notorious kingpins have been neutralized, and security operations are being supported by community protection guards, civilian joint task forces, and the Maiduguri hunters group.
He further emphasized that security remains the top priority of Governor Lawal’s Rescue Mission Agenda and that visible progress has been made.
“Anyone saying otherwise is either politically motivated or deliberately mischievous. Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has recorded significant success in decimating bandit groups, and the people of Zamfara are witnessing these gains,” Kaura said
Kaura called on the people of the state to disregard the claims made by the self-styled lawmakers, describing them as disgruntled political elements.
He cautioned that their actions could amount to contempt of court, noting that the only Assembly recognized by law is the one led by Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki.
“The High Court ruling is clear. Any attempt by these individuals to parade themselves as a parallel Assembly is a direct affront to the judiciary, and the court may take legal action accordingly,” he warned.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace, security, and the welfare of all Zamfara citizens.
