The Kano State Censorship Board has revoked the operational license of Sunsiro Entertainment, an open theatre located along Yahaya Gusau Road in Sharada, Kano, citing security concerns raised by residents and supported by police findings.

The decision was approved by the Board’s Executive Secretary, Abba El‑Mustapha, following recommendations from the Board’s supervisory team and a police report. The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman.

According to the statement, residents of the Sharada Yahaya Gusau area had lodged formal complaints alleging that the theatre’s activities posed threats to the security and moral wellbeing of the community.

In response, the Executive Secretary constituted an investigation committee to thoroughly examine the allegations. The committee’s findings were subsequently forwarded to the police for further investigation and recommendations, which informed the Board’s final decision to revoke the theatre’s license.

The Board also recalled that at the beginning of the Ramadan period, it had earlier ordered the suspension of all open theatre activities across Kano State as part of efforts to maintain public order and uphold community standards.

The statement noted that the action was taken in accordance with the Board’s statutory mandate and existing regulations governing open theatre operations and entertainment activities.

The Kano State Censorship Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that entertainment venues operate within the law and do not compromise public safety or community values.
