The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist, Malam Bashir Lawan Gumel, a former staff of Freedom Radio Dutse.

In a statement by the Council Secretary, Aisha Ahmed, the union described his death as a painful loss to the entire media community in Jigawa and beyond. He was praised for his professionalism, dedication to public service, and his strong adherence to journalistic ethics.

The NUJ noted that Malam Bashir’s passion for journalism and his commitment to truth made him a respected figure in the industry, leaving behind a legacy of courage and integrity.

The council added that his absence comes at a critical time when the media’s role in promoting peace and accountability is highly needed, making the loss even more deeply felt.

Condolences have been extended to his immediate family, colleagues at Freedom Radio, and everyone impacted by his life and work.

The NUJ prayed for Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest and comfort those he left behind.
