The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has launched the 2026 Ramadan and Sallah Welfare Distribution Programme to support 16,000 orphans and underprivileged persons across the 19 emirate councils in the state.
The flag-off ceremony took place at the Zakat and Endowment Board Headquarters in Gusau, where the First Lady said the initiative was designed to ease hardship and improve the well-being of vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan and the Sallah celebrations.
According to her, the beneficiaries who were carefully screened wou each receive a 25kg bag of rice, ₦20,000 cash support, and clothing materials, including wrappers for women and fabric materials for men, to enable them observe Ramadan and celebrate Sallah with dignity.
She explained that the ceremony marked the commencement of the distribution exercise in the Central Zone of Zamfara State, covering the Gusau, Tsafe, Bungudu, Maru, Kwatar Kwashi, Dan Sadau, and Birnin Yan Donto Emirate Councils.

She also described the event as a significant step toward ensuring that, essential Ramadan packages reach those who need them most.
Hajiya Huriyya noted that the welfare programme, which has become an annual tradition, reflected the commitment of the present administration under the leadership of Dauda Lawal to providing relief for the masses and improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens.
The Wife of the Governor commended the State Zakat Board for its dedication and the positive impact it continues to make in the lives of orphans, widows, and indigent families.
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal also assured the orphans of the government’s care and support, stressing that they are loved, valued, and not alone, while praying for Allah’s blessings and success in their lives.
In their remarks, beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the state government and the Zakat Board for the timely assistance, describing the gesture as a source of relief and encouragement.

The event was attended by Emirs, senior government officials, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
