Chairman House Committee on Disability, Dr. Bashiru Dawodu

House of Representatives has frowned at the denial and other forms of discrimination against the Persons Living with Disabilities, PWDs, despite Disability Act.

At a news conference in Abuja, the Chairman House Committee on Disability, Dr. Bashiru Dawodu, while reacting to the denial of access by a food Outlet to Mr. Adebola Daniel, the Son of Senator Gbenga Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun State, described as unacceptable constant discrimination against PWDs by individuals organizations and institutions.

Dr. Dawodu emphasized that injustices against PWDs will no longer be tolerated as violators of Disability Act would henceforth face the consequences of their actions.

" The case of Mr. Adebola Daniel is one in millions of other unreported cases of such abuses and injustices against People with Disabilities, this will no longer be tolerated by the governments at all levels, any establishment within shore of our country irrespective of owner's status should take note, enough is enough".

Dr. Bashiru Dawodu, stressed that the committee would ensure total compliance to Disability Act as practiced in the other parts of the world to give every citizen sense of dignity, inclusiveness and protect the rights of every Nigerian irrespective their physical condition.

Dr. Dawodu, reiterated the Committee’s commitment to kick start full implementation of Disability Act that would guarantee access to public buildings, employment quotas and welfare promotion for persons with Disabilities.

He urged State governments to domesticate disability Act as the committee will continue to monitor adherence to the act by government agencies, institutions as well as the private organizations.
