Zamfara PDP Secretary, Alhaji Faruk Ahmed Shatiman Rijiya

, The opposition party in Zamfara state, the People’s Democratic Party PDP has opposed and condemned the directives given by the state Governor for people to defend themselves by acquiring arms.

This was disclosed by the State’s Party Secretary Alhaji Faruk Ahmed during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.

Alhaji Faruk Ahmed said, the decision to allow people to hold arms could lead to taking the law into their hands and also lead them to political thuggery, and hooliganism against the opposition parties.

According to him, security issue is the responsibility of all adding that, it is the constitutional mandate of both the state and federal governments to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry.

He added that, the present security measures taken by Governor Mattawalle were not different from the previous ones.

The PDP Secretary also called on the security agencies from the Inspector General of police, the DSS and the NSCDC to be vigilant on the governor’s intention of targeting the opposition parties by using various security committees.

Ahmed finally lamented that “Since the 2023 general elections are around the corner, Matawalle is determined to employ all necessary machinery to cause fear in the minds of the opposition parties.
