To strengthen health systems through community-led monitoring, the COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) Kano State Advocacy Team has paid an advocacy visit to the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA).

The visit was aimed at updating the agency on ongoing facility visits by the C19RM Advocacy, Treatment, and Monitoring (ATM) team, implemented under the community component by ACOMIN.

The delegation included Abdulhakim Daiyab (C19RM State Programs Officer), Dr. Nura Haladu (ACOMIN State Chair), Alhaji Sunusi Hashim (TB Network State Chair), and Hafsat Muhammad (representative of NEPHWAN).

The team was received by Dr. Imam Wada, Director of Prevention and Control, who represented the Director General of SACA, Dr. Usman Bashir.

During the visit, the team explained that C19RM ATM has been actively advocating for improvements on HIV/AIDS, TB at health facility levels before escalating unresolved issues to relevant authorities.

They highlighted findings from their recent facility visits, which revealed challenges that require urgent intervention to improve the effectiveness of health service delivery and community-based responses concerning HIV/AIDS.

The team explained that, after facility visits, they provide feedback to community-based organizations CBOs and community-led monitoring teams CLMTs.

They noted that the C19RM project objectives include strengthening the capacity of facility-based and community networks, frontline staff and volunteers to achieve effective health outcomes.

Responding, Dr. Imam Wada acknowledged the value of the C19RM initiative and affirmed SACA’s readiness to address the concerns raised.

He emphasized the agency’s commitment to thec control of HIV/AIDS and reiterated that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is determined to ensure quality healthcare delivery for all.

He also commended the contributions of the C19RM team across implementing LGAs and assured them of continuous collaboration to achieve shared health goals.
