Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has paid over 1.3 billion naira as fertilizer subsidy for farmers across the state as part of support for the 2025 wet farming season.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Fertilizer Distribution Committee, Dr. Lawal M. Liman, during an inspection visit to ASAD Fertilizer Company, an indigenous fertilizer blending plant located in Bungudu local government in Zamfara State.
Dr. Liman confirmed that 81 trucks of fertilizer ordered under the intervention have already been stocked by the company in preparation for distribution.
In a statement released by the Chairman of the Publicity Committee, Ibrahim Muhammad, and made available to newsmen in Gusau, revealed that, the major beneficiaries of the subsidy are small-scale farmers, who form the backbone of the state’s agricultural sector.
“The primary objective is to support smallholder farmers to increase their productivity and income through access to affordable fertilizer during the rainy season,” Dr. Liman said.
Dr. Liman, who also serves as the Chairman, Governing Board of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria, Kaduna State, explained that under the subsidy arrangement, each beneficiary will pay 20,000 naira per bag of fertilizer, compared to the current market price of 45,000 to 50,000 naira.
He added that the fertilizer will be transported free of charge to each local government headquarters to ensure easy access for farmers across the state.
He assured that the distribution, which will commence shortly, will be devoid of political or partisan bias.
