National Chairman urges constitutional recognition at turbaning of first Sardaunan of Nigeria

The Association of African Chiefdoms has stressed the critical role of traditional institutions in fostering unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

Speaking at the turbaning ceremony of Alhaji Aliyu Dauda as the first Sardaunan of Nigeria, held at Yankari, Bauchi State, the National Chairman of the Chiefdom, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, highlighted the enduring significance of traditional leadership in national development.

According to Haruna, traditional institutions not only provide fatherly guidance to their communities but also make vital contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth. He noted that Alhaji Aliyu Dauda’s consistent support for traditional institutions, particularly in Northern Nigeria, was a key factor in his selection for the prestigious title.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Aliyu Dauda called on the Federal Government to formally recognize the role of traditional institutions in the nation’s constitution. He emphasized that such recognition would empower traditional leaders to serve their communities without undue interference.

The event drew dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers from across the country, marking a significant moment for traditional governance in Nigeria.
