Niger state wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT has maintained that the Supreme Court judgement did not split the union into two autonomous body.

The clarification became necessary to correct the errornuos and negative misinterpretations of such judgement by some of it’s members.

State Chairman of NUT Comrade Ibrahim Umar and Principal Administrative Secretary General Comrade Labaran Garba who stated this in their seperate address at the end of their emergency meeting in Minna also presented certified and true copies of judgement to delegates.

The statement further described as misleading and un true that the Supreme Court judgement has given secondary school teachers the legal right to form their own union Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools.

They unanimously told the delegates to as a matter of urgency disregard all sort of information of splitting the union instead continue to work as a team to enhance much needed peace progress and stability of its members and union.

According to them there is the need for members of NUT to shun the selfish misinterpretation of Supreme Court judgement by some members of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools and their cohorts.

They however threatened to take legal action against individual and groups who engage in spreading false information on the Supreme Court judgement towards puting the record straight.

The communique issued at the end of SWEC meeting also announced the suspension of two principal officers of NUT in Bosso Local Government Area for their involvement in financial recklessness in the End Well scheme.
