The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles during intelligence-led operations conducted between October 8 and 9.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in Kano, saying operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division carried out the operations to combat vehicle theft.
He said one of the recovered vehicles was a 2010 ash-coloured Toyota Corolla entrusted to a suspect, Sale Usman, alias Dambu, by its owner, Aminu Yahaya, for sale. The vehicle was allegedly diverted without the owner’s consent and later recovered from a buyer in Katsina, who claimed to have purchased it for ₦7.5 million.
Kiyawa added that operatives recovered a stolen white Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number NSR 261 XB at Mariri Magadawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area. Two suspects, Abubakar Umar, 23, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, were arrested in connection with the theft.
He further said a 40-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Adamu, from Potiskum, Yobe State, was arrested while allegedly arranging to have a stolen Mitsubishi Canter truck repainted at Kadawa Quarters.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect confessed to stealing the truck from Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum. The police have contacted their Yobe State counterparts for further investigation and the return of the vehicle to its owner.
The police said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives and urged residents to secure their vehicles, report suspicious activities and provide credible information to assist the police.
