Written by Yusuf Zubairu

Zamfara state government has approved the conversion of Damba Covid-19 Disease Control Center to a general hospital.

The directive was issued by the State Deputy Governor Senator Hassan Muhammad Nasiha when he visited the Center at Damba and Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau.

He said the visit was a follow-up visit to the two facilities aimed at improving the capacity of staff and facilities to meet the demand of the people of the state.

After inspecting the available equipment at Damba, Hassan Nasiha directed the immediate handing over of the facility by the Ministry of Works to the Ministry of Health for conversion to the status of a General Hospital.

The Deputy governor gave two weeks ultimatum to the Ministry to ensure the immediate take-off of the Centre as General Hospital, considering the increase in population in the State Capital and its environs, and also be expected to complement the existing ones in Gusau.

At Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, he inspected the Male Medical Surgical, Orthopaedic, Theatre, Accident and Emergency Wards.

Alhaji Hassan Nasiha urged the Medical Director to, as a matter of urgency, put the Orthopaedic Department of the hospital into full operation to avoid travelling to neighbouring states for the services rendered by the department.
