The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged Nigerian students to take an active role in fighting corruption by promoting transparency, accountability and integrity in their institutions and communities.
The EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, made the call at the 2026 National Association of Finance Students (NAFS) Conference held at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
Represented by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Kano Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Friday S. Ebelo, Olukoyede said young people have a critical role to play in supporting anti-corruption efforts and building a society founded on integrity.
In a paper titled “The Role of the EFCC in Combating Financial Crimes and Promoting Financial Integrity in Nigeria,” the chairman highlighted the Commission’s mandate, crime prevention strategies, use of technology in tackling financial crimes and the importance of public enlightenment.
He urged students to support and promote the activities of anti-corruption agencies, noting that collective participation would strengthen efforts to promote accountability and good governance.

Olukoyede identified the Integrity Clubs in primary and secondary schools and Zero Tolerance Clubs in tertiary institutions as platforms for engaging young people in the fight against corruption.
He also encouraged students to identify and report corrupt practices in their communities, stressing that tackling corruption requires collective responsibility and sustained public participation.
As part of the engagement, pupils from BUK Staff Model Secondary School and ADDY Basic Secondary School, Rimin Gata, Kano, received sensitisation on the importance of honesty, integrity and rejecting corruption from an early age.
The Acting Zonal Director was received by the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ahmad Muhammad Sauni, alongside other members of the university’s management team.
The conference provided an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges in the fight against corruption and suggest practical measures to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
