Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has charged journalists on professionalism and high ethical standard in the discharge of their duties as watchdog of society.

The Governor gave the charge in Gusau the state Capital during a two-day training workshop organised by the Zamfara state Ministry of Information in collaboration with some foreign Media Partners for journalists in the state.

Governor Matawalle who was represented by the Commissioner of Information Ibrahim Dosara , said the role of the journalists was critical in the society as both the governed and the government rely solely on the media for information to better the society.

He said media professionals could not afford to be less professional and unethical towards meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the society, hence the reason for organising the training aimed at fine tuning journalists for modern day expectation in view of the evolution of the social media.

The Governor also urged journalists to cultivate entrepreneurial spirit and skills in the use of new technology in order to remain relevant in the media and communication industries.

Matawalle also assured government’s support to journalists in the state and advised them to be objective in their reportage.

In their separate presentations Mohammad Abba, Sanyinna and Dingyadi charged the participants on branding, use of modern technology in journalism and the impact of social media in fighting banditry.

The participants numbering about 200 were drown from various media houses across the state both prints and electronics.
