Borno State Government has relocated over three thousand families from Internally displaced persons camps to newly resettled communities.
Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Alhaji Mustapha Gubio made this known to newsmen shortly after handing over NYSC camp to officials of the Youths Service Corps in Maiduguri.
It was a joyous moment for over six thousand Internally displaced persons of NYSC camp in Maiduguri as they have been officially relocated to Auno after seven years with each household given one hundred thousand naira and food items for a period of one month.
Governor Babagana Zulum had promised to closed down three camps by the end May, while the remaining twenty four camps would be shut down by the end of the year.
Chairman, Borno State Resettlement Committee and Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Mustapha Gubio said non of the Displaced Persons was forced out of the camp as they were given three options of resettlement in Auno, Maiduguri metropolis or their respective communities.
He said with the relocation of the IDPs, NYSC Orientation which was suspended for nearly ten years would resume in the state.
“The state government is planning to commence Orientation of Corp members here in Maiduguri, for one decade now our children are doing Orientation in other states, therefore is an opportunity for them to start Orientation activities “.
Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Alhaji Bukar Talba said the state government has established mega farms in Auno and Damasak to enable returnees commence farming activities this far season.
“The Governor has directed us to commence farming between Auno and Jakana communities, two-two hundred metres, so we have open up the land to enable every returnee have land and we have Agro-Rangers that will assist them. They will be there from morning to evening “.
Director General, Borno State Emergency Management Agency Hajiya Yabawa Kolo remarked that the committee has shut down MOGOLIS and NYSC camps and relocated IDPs of Kawuri, Ajiri, Baga to their communities.
Two of the IDPs Kaltum Adamu from Konduga and Mohammed Abatcha from Bama complained that they have neither received the allocation letter or the resettlement package of one hundred thousand naira, calling on the government to consider their plight.
Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that for the past seven years, NYSC camp has been housing IDPs from Bama, Konduga and Damboa Local Government Areas.
