Kaduna State Government says meaningful transformation in the education sector cannot be achieved without competent, motivated and adequately supported teachers.

Governor Uba Sani stated this in a message at the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration held in Kaduna.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, the Governor explained that his administration had trained over thirty-three thousand teachers and education personnel as part of efforts to strengthen the teaching profession.

According to him, Government was also investing in school infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, as well as continuous professional development for teachers.

The Governor described the interventions as an indication of his administration’s conviction that investing in teachers is an investment in the future of the state.

He commended the Nigeria Union of Teachers-NUT, for its sustained advocacy and partnership with the Government, assuring that his administration would continue to engage the Union and other stakeholders in addressing challenges affecting teachers.

In a message, President of the NUT, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, said protecting teachers was synonymous with protecting the education system.

 

He called for improved welfare and greater recognition for teachers, describing teaching as a profession that requires commitment, dedication and respect.

Comrade Audu Amba also commended Kaduna State Government for its investment in capacity building and the continuous training and re-training of teachers.

In a remark, the Chairman of the NUT, Kaduna State Wing, Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, emphasised the need for continuous training and re-training of teachers, adding that capacity building would enable them improve their skills and effectiveness.

The theme of this year’s celebration is: “Standing with Teachers: Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping our Futures.”

There were goodwill messages from stakeholders, drama and debate presentations by school pupils, as well as the presentation of an award to Governor Uba Sani.
