Kebbi State Police Command has arrested Idrisu Musa in connection with the murder of his elder brother, Muhammad Haruna, and his wife, Habiba Muhammad.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
The couple was attacked with a cutlass while asleep in Asarara Village, Kimba District, Jega Local Government Area of the state, and both later died from their injuries.
According to the statement, substantial incriminating evidence was recovered linking the suspect to the crime, adding that he had reportedly intimidated the couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the incident.
Family members and residents described the late Muhammad Haruna as a peaceful and quiet individual who was not known for conflicts or disputes within the community.
Local sources said the incident has thrown the entire community into mourning, as neighbours and sympathizers gathered at the family house following the discovery of the killings.
The couple is survived by six children, including four boys and two girls, who have now been left orphaned following the tragic incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and assured the public that justice would be diligently pursued.
