Northwest University Kano NWUK has commissioned a Safe Keeping Centre aimed at preventing examination malpractice and protecting students’ personal belongings during examinations.

The Vice-Chancellor, Amina Salihi Bayero, led the official commissioning of the facility  at the Faculty of Education, describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening academic integrity in the institution.

The facility, known as the “Safe Guard Initiative,” was established by the university’s Alumni Association under the leadership of its President, Abba Salo.

The facility would provide a secure location where students can deposit phones, bags, laptops, and other valuables before entering examination halls.

University officials said the initiative is designed to prevent theft and discourage examination malpractice, particularly cases linked to the use of mobile phones during examinations.

The project was facilitated under the guidance of the former Director of Advancement and Linkages, Rukayya Muhammad Hamisu, who explained that the idea was inspired by the university’s policy prohibiting students from entering examination halls with phones and bags.

She maintained that the Alumni Association plans to expand the Safe Keeping Centres to other strategic locations across the university, including its City Campus.

Also speaking at the event, the incoming Director, Abdulmunin, commended the Alumni Association for introducing a practical solution to curb examination malpractice.

He noted that the initiative would enhance the credibility and transparency of the university’s examination system.

In her remarks, Professor Bayero praised the Alumni Association for executing what she described as a timely and impactful project, despite the association’s relatively recent establishment.

She expressed concern over increasing cases of examination malpractice and emphasized that the Safe Guard Initiative would help address the problem.

She stressed that the facility would provide students with peace of mind, knowing their belongings are secure while they focus on their examinations.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the Alumni Association to ensure proper management of the facility to maintain its effectiveness and sustainability.

Earlier, the Alumni Association President, Abba Salo, expressed appreciation to the university management for its support and assured that the initiative would be expanded across the campus to ensure smooth and malpractice-free examinations.

The commissioning of the Safe Keeping Centre marks a milestone in the collaboration between the university management and its alumni, aimed at strengthening institutional development, improving examination conduct, and promoting discipline among students
