The Kano State Ministry of Education has inaugurated a State Steering Committee on Education Quality Assurance.
Inaugurating the committee, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, described the move as a significant milestone that highlights the Kano State Government’s commitment to strengthening coordination, ensuring policy alignment, and promoting strategic planning for education quality assurance across the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, the commissioner explained that the establishment of the committee reflects the state’s resolve to build a strong, credible, and responsive education system that meets national standards while addressing local needs.
He disclosed that Kano State currently has 7,331 Early Childhood and Primary Schools, 1,431 Junior Secondary Schools, and 849 Senior Secondary Schools, figures which, according to him, exceed those of many other states in the federation.
He noted that this places Kano in a strategic position to play a leading role in education quality assurance, given the size and diversity of its education system.
Makoda explained that the State Steering Committee is expected to provide strategic oversight, quality assurance activities, align state initiatives with the national framework, and support continuous improvement across all levels of education.
He added that the committee would also serve as a platform for collaboration among relevant ministries, agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
Addressing members of the committee, the Commissioner said their selection was based on confidence in their capacity, expertise, and experience, urging them to carry out their duties with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.
He stressed that the success of the committee would contribute significantly to improving educational outcomes and restoring public confidence in the state’s education system, assuring members of the Kano State Government’s full support in the discharge of their mandate.
