Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged women across the country to embrace small beginnings as they build careers in digital technology and business.
She made the call on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/NITDA Women ICT Training Empowerment Program held in Abuja.
Speaking to the participants, the First Lady emphasized that success often starts with modest steps, urging women not to be discouraged by limited beginnings.
“Don’t be afraid to start small. Somebody will take note when you do it well,” she said.
Senator Tinubu reflected on her experience establishing the Alternative High School for Girls in Lagos, which began as a new and uncertain idea but has now expanded to more than 40 similar schools nationwide, an example she said should inspire women to build digital skills with patience and confidence.
Senator Tinubu applauded the growth of the ICT training program, which has expanded from an initial 35 beneficiaries to 607 women trained across the country.
She described the participants as “ambassadors of digital literacy,” urging them to apply their new skills and continue advancing in the digital ecosystem.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director-General of NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, highlighted the importance of empowering women through digital literacy in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic vision.
He stated that Nigeria cannot achieve its $1 trillion economy target without equipping women with technological tools, stressing NITDA’s goal of reaching 95% digital literacy by 2030.
A total of 320 women drawn from all six geopolitical zones participated in the 2025 edition of the program.
Each beneficiary received a brand-new laptop and a ₦200,000 seed fund to support their digital and entrepreneurial pursuits.
