Residents of Riruwai and Doguwa towns in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State have decried the prolonged abandonment of the Doguwa 5KM road project, despite its review and revalidation by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The project, divided into two segments one in Riruwai, the local government headquarters, and the other in Doguwa town has remained inactive for months, sparking public outrage among residents.
During an inspection visit by the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation,Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, residents lamented that the contractor had abandoned both sites, citing inflation and rising construction costs as reasons for halting work.

Despite the state government’s intervention through a contract review, there has been no visible progress on the ground.
A community leader in Doguwa, Malam Saminu Adam, described the situation as a betrayal of public trust and a sabotage of the governor’s developmental agenda.
“We were told the government had revalidated the project, but since then, nothing has happened. No workers, no equipment. The road is now worse than before,”
Responding Commissioner Nura Ma’aji appealed for calm and assured residents that the ministry would hold contractors accountable for negligence or project delays.
“In September, an agreement was reached that all 5KM road projects across the state must be completed by December 25, 2025. It is our mandate to follow up, assess progress, and report back to His Excellency,”he said.
The commissioner, however, noted that the Tudun Wada 5KM road project is progressing satisfactorily, with the contractor fully mobilized and work nearing completion, aside from minor relocation challenges.
Earlier , the commissioner visited Warawa and Dawakin Kudu border communities to inspect the abandoned Dogarawa–Katarkawa–Gogel 12KM road project, which, when completed, will boost economic activities in Katarkawa, Yan Gizo, Gogel, Madari, Amarawa, and Yar Gaya communities.
The Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely completion of all projects under the Kano State Road Development Initiative.
