The Wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has called on all stakeholders to work together toward ensuring access to nutritious food and promoting sustainable agricultural growth across the state.
She made the call during this year’s celebration of World Food Day organized by the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA), Zamfara State Chapter held in Gusa.
Hajiya Huriyya, who was represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Rukayya Mani Malam Mumini, said the event underscored the importance of unity and cooperation among farmers, families, and leaders in making healthy food available for all.
She urged farmers, particularly women, to remain steadfast and continue to contribute to food security and economic growth.
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal expressed optimism that with the joint efforts of government, the private sector, and communities, Zamfara State would become a model of food sufficiency, resilience, and hope for the entire nation
She emphasized that in Zamfara, farming is not just a means of livelihood but a symbol of pride and heritage.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women farmers through access to improved seeds, modern tools, and financial support to enhance productivity.
She commended the present administration for its unwavering dedication to improving the welfare of women through various empowerment programs, including the establishment of the Ministry of Women Affairs, monthly cash transfers for small-scale businesswomen, and the provision of fertilizers and other essential inputs to women farmers.
Hajiya Huriyya also acknowledged the collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) and other partners to ensure that women remain central to agricultural progress in the state.
In her remark, the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA), Zamfara Chapter, Hajiya Shema’u Nalado, called for renewed commitment toward promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering women farmers to achieve food security in the state.
Hajiya Shema’u called on stakeholders to address challenges such as climate change, land degradation, and water scarcity, which threaten global food systems.
The NAWIA Coordinator emphasized that, food is not merely a basic necessity but also a symbol of culture, community, and love.
To strengthen food security, Hajiya Shema’u outlined key strategies, including promoting sustainable agriculture through access to modern farming techniques and technologies; empowering women farmers with training, credit facilities, and resources; and reducing food waste through mindful consumption.
Women farmers from across the state showcased different farm produce during the celebration.
