The Federal Government says achieving food security remains at the centre of the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, stated this at the flag-off of the distribution of agricultural inputs and equipment to small-scale farmers, internally displaced persons, and farmers with special needs in Sokoto State.

The Minister, represented by a Director from the Ministry, Abdulmajid Sule, said in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has declared food security a national state of emergency to ensure sustainable agricultural development across the country.

He noted that ensuring food security for citizens is one of the most important responsibilities of any nation.

According to the Minister, the
Agric Ministry had put in place modalities and mechanisms that would assist the mission of Mr. President of enhancing productive capacity, creating jobs, and reducing the cost of living of Nigerians.

Kyari, said the Federal Government has demonstrated strong political will by rolling out projects and programmes aimed at addressing all the major challenges facing farmers across the country.

He explained that through collaboration with state governments, opinion leaders, and development partners, Nigerians are beginning to feel the positive impact of the gradual reduction in food prices nationwide.

Radio Nigeria reports that the agricultural inputs distributed include solar-powered water pumps, storage bags, power tillers, and other essential farming equipment.

In a response, the state Commissioner for Agriculture , Professor Tukur Alkali said Sokoto is among the major state that are benefiting from federal government agricultural interventions in all the agricultural values chain.

The Commissioner who was represented by the state Director of irrigation, Abubakar Aliyu Rabba, believed that the agro inputs and implements distributed by the FG will go a long way boosting productivity in Sokoto State.

Speaking, on behalf of the beneficiaries, Lawal Sani thank the federal government and pledged effective utilisation of the inputs.
